There are many platforms/plugins available to add push notifications but here I use OneSignal to add web push notification. So let’s see the process step by step.
Step 1: Create an account on OneSignal
To create an account, go to OneSignal official website and click on the Get Started or Sign Up button. Now create an account by providing your email and password. If you want, you can continue with Google, Facebook or GitHub.
After signing up, select a plan. Here I continue with the free plan.
Now provide some information about yourself and your organization.
Now provide the App name and click on create.
Step 2: Create API key
Now go to Settings > Platforms and Activate the web integration. Choose the integration as WordPress plugin or website builder and then select WordPress.
After selecting WordPress, now provide the website name, URL and upload the website logo. Now click on Save button below.
Step 3: Install the plugin and connect with OneSignal
Now go to the WordPress dashboard and install the OneSignal plugin. After installing, you will see a WordPress tab called “OneSignal Push”, click on it. Go to configuration.
Now provide the App ID, API Key and Safari Web ID that we get from the OneSignal website.
Now scroll down below and go to “Sent Notification Settings” and set the “Hide notifications after a few seconds” to NO. After that, go to “Prompt Settings & Subscription Bell” section and enable the first option and disable the “Enable the Subscription Bell” option. Now scroll down and save it.
So we successfully added web push notification and if you check you will see a prompt to enable push notification. After allowing, you will get updates as a notification.
